Teenagers who are addicted to the internet show signs of brain changes similar to those who are addicted to alcohol and drugs, a study suggests.Chinese researchers used MRI scans to look at the brain structure of 17 young people with "internet addiction disorder" attending the Shanghai Mental Health Centre and compared them with those of 16 healthy volunteers.

In the internet-addicted teens, the scans showed changes to the white matter fibres
which connect the regions of the brain involved in emotional processing, attention and decision-making.Other research has found similar white matter changes in the brains of people addicted to alcohol, cocaine, cannabis and other drugs.

The researchers, led by Dr Hao Lei from the Chinese Academy of Sciences,
wrote in the journal Plos One:

"The findings suggest that white matter integrity may serve as
a potential new treatment target in internet addiction disorder."
However, the study findings cannot say whether internet addiction causes the brain changes seen in the study. Some people may already have brains which make them more likely to become addicts.

Commenting on the study, Dr Henrietta Bowden-Jones, a consultant psychiatrist at
Imperial College London, said:

"This type of research exploring the differences between normal brains of people who suffer from internet addictions is groundbreaking, as it makes clear neuroimaging links between internet addiction and other addictions such as alcohol, cocaine and cannabis among others.

"We are finally being told what clinicians suspected for some time now, that white matter abnormalities in the orbito-frontal cortex and other truly significant brain areas are present not only in addictions where substances are involved but also in
behavioural ones such as internet addiction."

15 years earlier than previously thought Mental decline can start in middle-age, according to new research.The brain's capacity for memory, reasoning and comprehension, known as cognitive function, tends to worsen from age 45 onwards, a study of more than 7,000 adults found.

Previous research has suggested that cognitive decline does not begin
before the age of 60, although this was not universally accepted by experts. The researchers, led by Archana Singh-Manoux from the Centre for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health in France and University College London, say this is the first study to show that a deterioration in memory and thinking skills begins in middle-age.The researchers studied 5,198 male and 2,192 female civil servants, aged between 45 and 70, over a 10 year period from 1997.The participants memory, vocabulary and comprehension skills were assessed three times during the study period.Cognitive tasks included recalling in writing as many words beginning with “S” - phonemic fluency - and as many animal names - emantic fluency - as possible.The study also took into account the differences in levels of education of the participants.

Cognitive scores declined in all the categories - memory, reasoning and comprehension- except vocabulary, and there was faster decline in older people.After 10 years, the research showed a 3.6% decline in mental reasoning in men and women who were aged 45 to 49 at the start of the study.The study also found a 9.6% decline in mental reasoning in men and a 7.4% decine in women aged 65 to 70 at the start of the study.

Writing in the online version of the British Medical Journal, the researchers said conditions such as dementia are now thought to be caused by long-term changes which occur over 20-30 years, and that there is emerging evidence to support "what is good for our hearts is also good for our heads."Targeting people with risk factors for heart disease such as obesity, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels may help to lower their risk of dementia later in life as well as protecting their heart, they said.Dr Anne Corbett, of the Alzheimer's Society said: "This large, important study adds vital information to the debate over when cognitive decline begins."However, the study does not tell us whether any of these people went on to develop dementia, nor how feasible it would be for GPs to detect these early changes.

In course of time Chuttanad became Kuttanad. One can still see kari or coal if we dig deep into the soil of Kuttanad, pointing to the fact that the place was once a forest, destroyed by wild fire. In Kuttanad most of the place names end in kari. Some familiar place names are Ramankary, Puthukkary, Oorukkary, Mitrakkary, Mampuzhakkary, Kainakari, Chathurthiakary and Chennamkari.[1]. It is also said that kuttanad was once under the sea.the proof is the land is flourished with seashells.

During the reign of Chera dynasty that ruled over ancient Kerala, Kuttanad attained an important place in history. Following its debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, Rolls Royce’s 102EX electric Phantom prototype has been touring the globe in order to not only gather vital data for engineers but also to gauge potential customer reaction to such a vehicle ever being launched by the bespoke British brand.Asked for feedback related to this feature, my suggestion was to offer much more Regen to facilitate true one-pedal driving during most conditions controlled in a continuously variable manner by a rotary knob instead of a two-position switch.

In lieu of classic wood paneling, the Phantom EE is fitted with casings made of aluminized woven glass strands. They look like bleached-white carbon fiber. To provide an appropriate contrast, flat areas are trimmed in a machined-texture aluminum-foil material. The net result is probably too cold and technical-looking for this clientele, but give Rolls credit for venturing down alternative avenues.

One instance where the electric challenger clearly beats the incumbent is in a passing maneuver. With a dozen cylinders to rouse and six gears to shuffle, there’s a moment’s hesitation and a slight hitch when the standard Phantom changes down to gather speed in response to a prod of the gas pedal. It’s smooth, but it doesn’t have the seamless surge forward that occurs when the electric’s accelerator is floored.

Delving deeper into the bill of materials, I learned that Dow Kokam manufactured the 96 prismatic lithium-ion battery cells in Korea and the Scottish firm Axeon assembled them into a 1411-pound, 338-volt pack that provides a 71-kWh energy capacity and a claimed 124 miles of range.

Two levels of regeneration are offered. In the normal setting, it’s barely noticeable. In the setting labeled “low,” lifting off the accelerator provides deceleration roughly equivalent to engine braking.

What stood out most was the fact that the 100 percent battery powered Phantom drove in a manner very similar to how its internal combustion powered siblings would. That is, rather silently but with an effortless thrust one would expect from a Rolls-Royce.

Having already traveled through parts of Europe and Asia, the 102EX recently made its way to New York City where John Voelcker, our green car expect over at Green Car Reports, had the opportunity to drive it.(For reference, a Nissan Leaf’s pack holds 24 kWh.) Colorado-based UQM supplied the synchronous permanent-magnet motors, delivering a combined 389 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque to the XTrac transaxle. Another American firm—Seton—provided the experimental vegetable-tanned leather trim for the 102EX’s seats, instrument panel, doors, and floor surfaces.After a quick 20 minutes behind the wheel Voelcker was able to come away with a few initial impressions.

Exterior deviations are quite minimal. Naturally, there are no exhaust pipes. To highlight the lack of a gas cap, the filler flap is transparent, showcasing the charging connection socket and the LEDs that glow blue during charging, green when the battery is replenished, and red if some electrical issue arises. In the event a noncontact inductive charging method is used, a successful connection is indicated with a violet LED. A second set of indicators is located on the center console. The recharge ritual takes up to eight hours on 220 volts or up to 20 hours on 110 volts.

Granted, Henry Royce, like Ferdinand Porsche, first trained as an electrical engineer, but surely not even the world’s reserves of Duracells would be enough to power a 2.5-ton super limousine.In other words, all of the advantages of electric traction were already present with the exception of any CO2 savings. In well-to-wheel terms the EE produces 193g/km compared to the standard car’s tailpipe emissions of 377g/km.

Besides, what was the point? Rolls-Royce’s existing BMW-sourced 6.75-litre 453bhp/531lb ft V12 already provides the sort of down-and-dirty torque that wafts the Phantom about as if powered by the sun. And wasn’t it the 1955 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud advertising line that ran: “At 60mph the loudest noise in this new Rolls-Royce comes from the electric clock”?

A change in your blood pressure during middle age can significantly increase
the risk of having a heart attack or a stroke later in life, according to a new study.

US researchers found that men and women who develop high blood pressure in middle age
have an estimated 30 per cent greater risk of having a heart attack or stroke compared with
those whose blood pressure is in the normal range.

In contrast to this, people who maintain or reduce their blood pressure to normal levels
by age 55 have the lowest lifetime risk for a heart attack or a stroke, the study found.

Usually a person's risk of heart disease and stroke is based on a single blood pressure measurement,
and the higher the reading, the greater the risk, researchers at Northwestern University, Chicago said.

However, this latest research found that a change in blood pressure between
the age of 41 to 55 is a more accurate indicator of the risk of stroke or heart disease.

The researchers analysed data from nearly 62,000 people.
Blood pressure measurements were taken when the people were aged 41, and then at 55.
After this, changes in blood pressure were tracked until the participants experienced their
first heart attack or stroke or up to the age of 95 or death.

Men who developed high blood pressure in middle age or who started out with high blood pressure
had a 70 per cent risk of having a heart attack or stroke compared with a 41 per cent risk for men
who maintained low blood pressure or whose blood pressure decreased during this period.

Women who developed high blood pressure had almost a 50 per cent risk of a heart attack or stroke
compared to a 22 per cent risk for women who had low blood pressure or whose blood pressure
decreased during the study.

"We found the longer we can prevent hypertension or postpone it,
the lower the risk for cardiovascular disease," said Dr Norina Allen,
at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, who led the study.

"Even for people with normal blood pressure, we want to make sure they keep it at that level,
and it doesn't start increasing over time."
"There hasn't been as much of a focus on keeping it low when people are in their 40's and 50's.
That's before a lot of people start focusing on cardiovascular disease risk factors.
"We've shown it's vital to start early," she added.

What is Racism?

Definition :

A belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural
or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior
and has the right to rule others.

Racism is the belief that inherent different traits in human racial groups justify discrimination.
In the modern English language, the term "racism" is used predominantly as a pejorative epithet.
It is applied especially to the practice or advocacy of racial discrimination of a pernicious nature
(i.e. which harms particular groups of people), and which is often justified by recourse to racial
stereotyping or pseudo-science.

Racism is popularly associated with various activities that are illegal or commonly considered harmful,
such as extremism, hatred, xenophobia, (malignant or forced) exploitation, separatism, racial supremacy,
mass murder (for the purpose of genocide), genocide denial, vigilantism (hate crimes, terrorism), etc.

"Racism" and "racial discrimination" are often used to describe discrimination on an ethnic or

of Psychology defines it as "a fear of strangers".

Supremacism:

Centuries of European colonialism of the Americas, Africa and Asia was excused by white supremacist attitudes.
During the early 20th century, the phrase "The White Man's Burden" was widely used to justify imperialist policy
as a noble enterprise.

Segregationism:

Racial segregation is the separation of humans into racial groups in daily life. It may apply to activities
such as eating in a restaurant, drinking from a water fountain, using a bath room, attending school, going to the movies,
or in the rental or purchase of a home. Segregation is generally outlawed, but may exist through social norms,
even when there is no strong individual preference for it, as suggested by Thomas Schelling's models of segregation

Types:

Racial discrimination:

Racial discrimination refers to the separation of people through a process of social division into categories
not necessarily related to races for purposes of differential treatment.

Institutional:

Institutional racism (also known as structural racism, state racism or systemic racism) is racial discrimination
by governments, corporations, religions, or educational institutions or other large organizations with the power
to influence the lives of many individuals.

Economic:

Historical economic or social disparity is alleged to be a form of discrimination caused by past racism and
historical reasons, affecting the present generation through deficits in the formal education and kinds of
preparation in previous generation, and through primarily unconscious racist attitudes and actions on members
of the general population.

Declarations and international law against racial discrimination:

In 1919, a proposal to include a racial equality provision in the Covenant of the League of Nations was supported
by a majority, but not adopted in the Paris Peace Conference, 1919. In 1943, Japan and its allies declared work for
the abolition of racial discrimination to be their aim at the Greater East Asia Conference. Article 1 of the 1945
UN Charter includes "promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without
distinction as to race" as UN purpose.

In 2001, the European Union explicitly banned racism along with many other forms of social discrimination in the
Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, the legal effect of which, if any, would necessarily be limited
to Institutions of the European Union: "Article 21 of the charter prohibits discrimination on any ground such as race,
color, ethnic or social origin, genetic features, language, religion or belief, political or any other opinion,

HOW TO SAVE YOUR TIME

The real problem of leisure time is how to keep others from using yours.

Are there a hundred different things you wish you could do with your life someday anything from exercising to meditation or yoga to writing that novel you always wished you could write to reading more to relaxing and watching the sunrise? But perhaps you never have the time, like most people.

Cut out meetings. This isn't possible for everyone, but in my experience meetings take up a lot of time to get across a little information, or to make easy decisions that could be made via email or phone. As much as you can, minimize the number of meetings you hold and attend. In some cases this might mean talking to your boss and telling her that you have other priorities, and asking to be excused. In other cases this might mean asking the people holding the meeting if you can get the info in other ways. If so, you're saved yourself an hour or so per meeting (sometimes more).

Dont feel like you need to do everything yourself. If necessary, spend a little time training the person to whom youre delegating the task, but that little time spent training will pay off in a lot of time saved later. Delegating allows you to focus on the core tasks and projects you should be focusing on.Cut out distractions. What is there around your workspace that distracts you from the task at hand? Sometimes its visual clutter, or papers lying around that call for your attention and action, or email or IM notifiers on your computer that pop up at the wrong time, or the phone, or co workers. See if you can eliminate as many of these as possible the more you can focus, the more effective you be and the less time you waste. That equals time saved for the good stuff.
Schedule the rest of your life around these blocks.
Consolidate. There are many things you do, scattered throughout your day or your week, that you might be able to consolidate in order to save time. A good example is errands instead of running one or two a day, do them all in one day to save time and gas. Another example is email, or any kind of communication batch process your email instead of checking and reading and responding throughout the day. Same thing with meetings, paperwork, anything that you do regularly.
De clutter your schedule. If you have a heavily packed schedule, full of meetings and errands and tasks and projects and appointments, your going to want to weed it out so that its not so jam-packed. Find the stuff that's not so essential and cancel them. Postpone other stuff. Leave big blank spaces in your schedule.
Re-think your routine. Often we get stuck in a routine that's anything but what we really want our days to be like. Is there a better way of doing things? Your the creator of your life make a new routine that's more pleasant, more optimal, more filled with things you love.
Is it what youve always wanted? How would you get to where you ve always wanted to be? What do you enjoy doing, but dont have enough time to do? What things actually fill up your day? Are there things you could drop or minimize to make more time? We look at some of these things in the following items, but it starts with taking a time out to think and plan.Find your essentials. What is it that you love to do? Make a short list of 4-5 things. These are the things you want to make room for.

Disconnect. The biggest of distractions, for most people, is the Internet. My most productive times are when Im disconnected from the grid. Now, Im not saying you need to be disconnected all the time, but if you really want to be able to effectively complete tasks, disconnect your Internet so you can really focus. Set certain times of the day for connectivity, and only connect during those periods.Outsource. If you cant delegate, see if you can outsource. With the Internet, we can connect with people from all over the world. Ive outsourced many things, from small tasks to checking email to legal work to design and editing work and more. That allows me to focus on the things Im best at, the things I love doing, and saves me a lot of time.
Youre going to want to minimize these time-wasters to make room for the more important stuff, the stuff that makes you happy and that you love to do.
Schedule the time. As you sit down and think about your life and what you want to do, versus what you actually do, you will be looking at ways to free up time. Its crucial that you take a blank weekly schedule (you can just write it out on a piece of paper, or use your calendar) and assign blocks for the things you love the stuff on your essentials list. If you want to exercise, for example, when will you do it? Put the blocks of time on your schedule, and make these blocks the most important appointments of your week.
Cut back on email. I mentioned email in an earlier point above, regarding consolidating, but its such a major part of most peoples lives that it deserves special attention. How often do you check email? How much time do you spend composing emails? If you spend a major part of your work day on email, as many people do (and as I once did), you can free up a lot of time by reducing the time you spend in email. Now, this wont work for everyone, but it can work for many people: choose 2-3 key times during the day to process your inbox to empty, and keep your responses to 5 sentences.

Make use of your mornings. I find that mornings are the absolute best times to schedule the things I really want to do. I run, read and write in the mornings three of the four things on my Essentials List (spending time with family is the other thing on the list). Mornings are great because your day hasnt been filled with a bunch of unscheduled, demanding, last-minute tasks that will push back those Essentials. For example, if you schedule something for late afternoon, by the time late afternoon rolls around, you might have a dozen other things newly added to your to-do list, and you put off that late-afternoon Essential. Instead, schedule it for the morning, and itl rarely (if ever) get pushed back.The Golden Right-after-work Time. Other than mornings, I find the time just after work to be an incredible time for doing Essential things. Exercise, for example, is great in the 5-oclock hour, as is spending time with family, or doing anything else relaxing.
The truth is, we all have the same amount of time, and its finite and in great demand. But some of us have made the time for doing the things we love doing, and others have allowed the constant demands and pressures and responsibilities of life to dictate their days.
Do your Biggest Rock first. Of the three Most Important Tasks you choose for the day, pick the biggest one, or the one youre dreading most, and do that first. Otherwise you put that off as much as possible and fill your day with less important things. Don't allow yourself to check email until that Big Rock is taken care of. It starts your day with a sense of major accomplishment, and leaves you with a lot of free time the rest of the day, because the most important thing is already done.
Delegate. If you have subordinates or co workers who can do a task or project, try to delegate it.
Its time to move from the second group back into the first. Reclaim your time. Create the life you want and make the most of the free time you lay claim to. Its not hard, though it does take a little bit of effort and diligence.Not all of these will be applicable to your life choose the ones you can apply and give them a try:
Your evenings. The time before you go to bed is also golden, as it exists every single day, and its usually completely yours to schedule. What do you want to do with this time? Read? Spend time with your kids? Work on a hobby youre passionate about? Take advantage of this time.Lunch breaks. If the three golden times mentioned above dont work for you, lunch breaks are another good opportunity to schedule things. Some people like to exercise, or to take quiet times, during their lunch breaks. Others use this time to work on an important personal goal or project.

Take a time out. Freeing up your time starts with taking a step back to take a good look at your life. You need to block off at least an hour. Several hours or half a day is better. A whole day would be awesome. A weekend would be even more ideal, though not necessary practical for many folks. With this block of time, take a look at your life with some perspective.

Find your time-wasters. What do you spend a lot of your time on that isnt on your essential list? Take a close look at these things and really think about whether theyre necessary, or if there are ways to reduce, minimize or eliminate these things. Sometimes you do things because you assume theyre necessary, but if you give it some thought you can find ways to drop them from your life. Figure out what you do simply to waste time maybe surfing certain sites, watching TV, talking a lot at the water cooler, etc.

A wide variety of aerospace activities and lesson plans have been generated by active teachers, educators, and NASA engineers and scientists. Judging from the story of Daedalus and Icarus, humans have been interested in aerodynamics and flying for thousands of years, although flying in a heavier-than-air machine has been possible only in the last hundred years.

What is aerodynamics? The word comes from two Greek words: aerios, concerning the air, and dynamis, which means force. Aerodynamics is the study of forces and the resulting motion of objects through the air. Many of the activites were developed for the Learning Technologies Project at NASA Glenn.

These activities are now linked to information pages within the Beginner's Guides to Aerodynamics, Propulsion, and Model Rockets. These activities are generally aimed at younger students (K-8). Most of these activities are aimed at middle school students (6-8). These activities are accessed at the Wright Way web site and the UEET Kid's Page.Activites developed at teacher workshops in 1996 and 1997 as part of the Learning Technologies Project.

Logo design is an important area of graphic design, and one of the most difficult to perfect. The logo (ideogram), is the image embodying an organization. Because logos are meant to represent companies' brands or corporate identities and foster their immediate customer recognition, it is counterproductive to frequently redesign logos.

Another pioneer of corporate identity design is Paul Rand,^[14] who was one of the originators of the Swiss Style of graphic design. He designed many posters and corporate identities, including the logos for IBM, UPS, and ABC. Rand died in 1996. The third pioneer of corporate identity design is Saul Bass.^[15] Bass was responsible for several recognizable logos in North America, including both the Bell Telephone logo (1969) and successor AT&T globe (1983). Other well-known designs were Continental Airlines (1968), Dixie (1969), and United Way (1972). Later, he would produce logos for a number of Japanese companies as well. He died in 1996.

The logo design profession has substantially increased in numbers over the years since the rise of the Modernist movement in the United States in the 1950s.^[11] Three designers are widely^[12] considered the pioneers of that movement and of logo and corporate identity design: The first is Chermayeff & Geismar,^[13] which is the firm responsible for a large number of iconic logos, such as Chase Bank (1964), Mobil Oil (1965), PBS (1984), NBC (1986), National Geographic (2003) and others. Airbus A380 Complete Review

Toilet facilities are critical for long-haul flights, which make the A380’s inadequate facilities truly surprising. The rear main cabin had a total of two toilets near the tail, and for reasons which defy logic, Singapore airlines closed the curtains between the economy class sections on the main deck. This prevented passengers from using free toilets in other parts of economy, and the result was long lines after dinner, and clearly upset customers.

The one improvement Airbus has made is in quietening their hydraulics, which on the A330 is loud enough to frighten nervous passengers as the wheels descend for landing. Kudos goes to Airbus for this single long-overdue improvement.

But perhaps this shouldn't be too surprising, as passengers aren't the A380's customers: the carriers are.

So, what's the conclusion? Does this aircraft provide significant levels of increased comfort to those passengers in economy class?

But I suppose the biggest disappointment, yet again, is in the poor quality of journalism. I suspect I’ve now read over fifty reviews of the A380 in the general and travel press, and almost all of them positive and uncritical. So many mentioned the possibility, seeded by Airbus marketing, of onboard bars and cinemas due to the A380’s huge size.

Well, the seats were about as comfortable as those on other Airbus Industries aircraft, which is to say that they are hard and painful. Many of my colleagues and I try to avoid flights over four hours on Airbus planes for this very reason, and it seems that the A380 has not rectified this long standing problem.

For the average passenger sardined into economy, there is very little difference between the A380 and its Airbus long-haul predecessor, the A340-600. In comparison with the Boeing 747-400, the differences are fewer still. Indeed, in many ways (toilets, seat comfort), the A380 experience I had was a step backwards in passenger comfort.

At least Boeing's seats, unlike Airbus's, weren't designed as torture devices. Interestingly, QANTAS is also an A380 customer, which it plans to use on the (obscenely profitable) Sydney-Melbourne route, as well as the Los Angeles and London intercontinental routes.

Leg room between seats is one area of improvement, with a slight increase in the pitch between rows in economy. Unfortunately, other discomforts largely negate this slight improvement.

The actual flight itself was reasonably comfortable, though nothing exceptional when compared to flying these routes in the nearest comparable aircraft, the 747-400. I should say, however, that comparisons based on a single flight are of questionable value, especially as the weather was so mild. It would certainly be interesting to see how the A380 handled tropical storms over the Celebes and Banda Seas, which so often make flights from Australia into North Asia very “interesting”.
